The Man Behind AutoVere
Why I Built AutoVere
It started with a simple question: Why is it still so hard to know what a road trip is actually going to cost?
I'm 74 years old. After more than 40 years in construction, I retired in 2020.
A year later, instead of slowing down, I started building something completely different.
I'd spent years driving across Europe. The more I traveled, the more I kept running into the same problem: planning a long trip usually meant hunting for information in a bunch of different places.
Tolls. Toll passes. Ferries. Gas. EV charging. Different routes. Different countries. Different costs.
I figured there had to be a better way.
So I started building AutoVere.
What started as a personal project has grown into something a lot bigger — and I'm not doing it alone. My son's part of this too.
Together, we're building AutoVere around something that's always mattered to me: if it's worth doing, it's worth doing right.
That means using real data, official sources, algorithms, and math to figure out the cost of your trip.
Not guesswork. Not a black box.
The goal is simple: give people a clearer picture of what a trip is probably going to cost before they leave the driveway — and help them make smarter calls on routes, cars, and travel.
What started as one idea has grown way beyond Norway — and way beyond Europe.
AutoVere's already up and running in the US and Canada, not just Europe — with the goal of becoming a global automotive intelligence platform for anyone who travels by road.
But building something and believing in it isn't enough.
I want it tested in the real world.
That's why we created the AutoVere Challenge.
I don't want automotive journalists just taking my word for it.
